TWD: Chocolate Armagnac Cake

When I saw this weeks assignment for Tuesdays with Dorie I knew this was a recipe I had to make! I mean: who doesn't love chocolate??? When I stepped on the scales this weekend however, I suddenly had doubts.... My weight has never been this high, it actually scared me....

I decided: no more!! Time for diet... I signed up for Weight Watchers online, today was my first day. But... I already had already bought all the ingredients and couldn't let my coworkers down... Every week they look forward to trying a new cake/cookie on Wednesday.

So, I caved in and baked the cake. But... only the smallest sliver of cake for me, just to have a nibble and know what it tastes like. The rest of the cake has to be eaten by my coworkers!!

I made a couple of changes: I used 3,5 ounces milk chocolate and 3,5 ounces bittersweet chocolate in the cake, I also swapped the armagnac for cognac. A bottle of armagnac was soooo expensive, so I bought the cutest tiniest bottle of cognac I could find. Ow and I used a square pan that I lined with parchement instead of a springform pan.

What's that you're saying?? Yes, there is something missing on top of my cake... I totally forgot to put the glaze on top. But it still tastes great!! The texture is nice and velvety, although still a bit moist (I cooked it for 40 minutes instead of the recommended 28 - 32 minutes). I was a bit worried about the prunes, but that was unnecessary: it's like they disappeared into the cake and made it even more smooth!

Thank you Lyb of And then I do the dishes for picking this wonderful recipe! I loved it, will let you know later what the colleagues thought of it!!! Check out what my fellow TWD-ers thought of this cake here.

The glaze was really good but I agree that the cake would have been great without it too, especially cold. Hope your coworkers like it! Thanks for baking along with me this week! :)

Glad you enjoyed it! I really enjoyed this recipe, but too many dishes LOL

I did try it without the glaze and it was just as yummy. It was a rich and delicious cake and I'm sure your co-workers were happy you baked it. I'm on WW, too! Good luck and LOTS of SUCCESS!

I'm glad you made the cake and it was a success. It's better to allow yourself treats, but only in moderation. Good for you for allowing yourself a sliver of cake.

getting rid of the glaze is definitely a good way to save on calories :)

Your cake looks fantastic even without the glaze! I joined WW last week too but it won't stop me from baking. It'll stop me from eating the whole cake - but not from baking!

Your cake looks so delicious! I've had my eye on this recipe for a while.

Wow, juggling dieting and TWD, that will be a challenge!
Yummy cake, good job!

I joined TWD at the start of the year and am also starting to freak about my weight. I was pretending not to see the connection between the two. :( Good job with the cake.

You really only need to eat a little of this cake since it's so rich, so it's a good week to start your diet. I've had exercise more since joining TWD.

Ugh - a diet. I need to drop a few pounds too, but alas, I just started another round of fertility treatments - which means it's a no-no!
Your cake looks great and I hope you succeed with your diet!

Good for you, showing such restraint. Good luck on Weight Watchers. I have lost weight several times with them. (Unfortunately not always keeping it off.)

Anyway, Your cake looks yummy. I also baked longer than what was called for and it turned out just right.

Forgetting the glaze – sounds like something I would do!

Good luck with Weight Watchers! TWD should come with a free membership. ;)

Diet !! The worst four letter word, but the Dorie around, almost a necessity. Me too. Glad your friends like your goodies each week.

The nice thing about Weight Watchers is that you can still have your cake (a bit) and eat it, too! I finally put up my post about your award. Sorry it took so long.
