TWD: Chipster-Topped Brownie Disaster

Beth of Supplicious decided on Chipster-Topped Brownie for this weeks recipe. I wish I could tell you all that I loved this recipe, or even that I didn't really like it but unfortunately I haven't even had a nibble to taste the brownies.

I actually made this recipe one and a half weeks ago, I was invited for dinner over at a friends house and told her I'd bring dessert. The brownie batter looked quite bubbly.

The cookie dough looked good and tasted delicious!!

When I tried to divide the cookie batter over the brownie batter the cookie batter immediately sunk to the bottom.....

However I continued and popped the brownie/cookie batter into the oven, baked it for 55 minutes and took the brownie out of the oven when my cake tester came out with only faint streaks of chocolate, as indicated by Dorie. The top was dry, a bit hard and had a huge crack.

Something must have gone wrong as I found out it was still way too liquid inside when I started to cut into the brownies after cooling them during the day. A total disaster for me, the first I might add since I started baking. I couldn’t even salvage the smallest piece…

So no yummy brownies for my friends at dinner, instead I made a quick stop at the supermarket and bought some a tub of Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough.

Check out if my fellow TWD-ers had more succes with the Chipster-Topped Brownie here!

Oh no! So sorry that this one didn't work for you. The batters looked perfect.

Hello Marthe! I am tickled pink that I am your very first comment this week. I have not made the brownies yet, but I plan to. I'm so sorry about your brownies! That sounds like something that would happen to me. But at least you were able to be creative and take ice cream! I hate that your brownies didn't work out. Hope the rest of your week turns out better. We have brownies this week for Barefoot Blogger also!!

Amanda zei

I'm sorry they didn't work out for you! Mine were a little gooey in the middle, but all in all they were pretty good. My brownies were a bit dry though. :-P

Maris zei

MMm - I wouldn't have minded some delicious Ben & Jerry's cookie dough ice cream. Sorry that your brownies didn't turn out though :(

Leslie zei

Oh Marthe, I'm so sorry this one didn't work out for you! My brownies were so thick I don't think a spoon would have sunk to the bottom, but I beat the life out of the eggs by mistake. :-) Oh well, the cinnamon squares for next week look scrumptious!

vibi zei

Oh! Marthe... I'm so sorry. I'm sure though, you will not be the only one this didn't turn out for.

In the end, cookie dough ice cream I'm sure, was just as great! Hope your friend enjoyed!

What's for Supper? zei

huh....I wonder why that happened? Mine were raw in the middle on the top layer but I certainly didn't have the issue that you did.

Hindy zei

Aah. So sorry about your brownies, but it did make for a good story. And the photos are nice.

Isabelle zei

I am really sorry for you. Unfortunately, we are not always satisfied with the result. Mine were a little gooey in the middle.

I hope that you will have more success next week.

Marie Rayner zei

Awww...so sorry this didn't work out for you. It is so frustrating when you use expensive ingredients and then it doesn't work out. I think I will stick with my regular brownie recipe.

Jules Someone zei

Bummer! Sorry that it didn't work out for you. Maybe your brownie batter was too thin? At least Ben and Jerry were able to save the day.

Pamela zei

Oh, no!! I'm so sorry about this. Everything looked great before going into the oven. I think the ice cream was a good save, but I know you're disappointed! Keep smiling!

Katrina zei

Bummer. I REALLY hate when this kind of thing happens and there is no explanation! Could you have sevred it with ice cream and have it be like brownie pudding? Anyway, my favorite in the world is Cookie Dough Ice Cream, so I would have been happy! ;) Still, I get ya on the wasted ingredients! Sigh.

Teanna DiMicco zei

Those look GORGEOUS! The photos have me drooling!

Anoniem zei

I'm sorry to hear about your disaster! I wonder what happened. I bet the ice cream was good though - you can't go wrong with ice cream!

spike. zei

I wonder what happened? oh well, B&J ice cream is a good substitute!

Jacque zei

Oooooh, what a shame! And waste of ingredients too. I'm so sorry :(

I hope next week works out better for you.

Craving Ellie in My Belly zei

The same thing happened to me! It tested fine out of the oven but then when it cooled it was under baked! Thank goodness I am not the only one :)

Banjo zei

Mine were a gooey mess too!

Maria zei

Sorry they didn't work out. Thank goodness for ice cream!

chocolatechic zei

We had the same problem.

Anoniem zei

What a bummer, sorry this recipe did not work out for you! Looking forward to your Cinnamon Squares for next week!

Tammy zei

what a shame, I wonder if you bake them a bit longer and then maybe crumble them up a nd sprinkle over ice cream?

Judy zei

Maybe you could have turned your brownies into your own version of Cookie Dough/Brownie ice cream. Then you'd have the best of both!

Nancy/n.o.e zei

Sorry about the brownie disaster but at least you found a way to get that choc chip cookie dough anyway!

Jamie zei

Ack...sorry this one did not work out for you! I bet they loved that ice cream though!

margot zei

I like the photos of all the gooey goodness, but I'm sorry they weren't a success for you. Ice cream is a good consolation dessert.

farah zei

Sorry this didn't work for you. I made half mine in a muffin pan and they came out ok. The other half in a square pan was a complete disaster, way too gooey!

TeaLady zei

Ditto!! Lots of trouble with this one, also. Baked, Baked, Overbaked until all of it was finally done. But they were tasty in the end.

Sorry yours didn't come out.

Next week - better???

PheMom zei

Oh, I'm so sorry that they didn't work out for you! It's the thought that counts and I'm sure your guests were grateful no matter what!

Anoniem zei

Hurray for Ben and Jerry's

chocolatechic zei

Popping by to see if you made Ina's Outrageous Brownies.

sssshh...

They are better than Dorie's.

TourGuideJenn zei

This was a heartbreaking recipe, so hopefully you can take comfort in that others had the same problem (not much comfort at the moment since you planned to take these somewhere, but perhaps with some distance). Next week looks good!

Elyse zei

Aww, I'm sorry this didn't work out for you. Oh well, Ben & Jerry's ice cream is ALWAYS delicious. What a great solution! Sorry I've been away for the past week; I had a good friend in town and wasn't able to do much on the computer. I'm back now, though :)
