TWD: 15 Minute Magic - Chocolate Amaretti Torte

Holly of Phe/MOM/enon chose our TWD-recipe for today: the 15 Minute Magic - Chocolate Amaretti Torte. This torte was easy to assemble: it only took 15 minutes to make the torte and get it in the oven. I wanted to make half the recipe and thus create two four-inch tortes instead of one big torte. However I made one mistake: I forgot tho halve the recipe.... Hahahah! I found this out after I filled the two torte-pans and had some batter leftover. I filled a muffintin with this and ended up with 6 muffin-size tortes too!

The four-inch torte, pre-glazing

After topping the tortes, big and small, with the glazing and popping them into the fridge I started making the optional almond cream. I whisked the cream untill I had soft peaks and then proceeded to add the confectioners sugar and the almond essence to the cream. When I started to mix the almond essence with the cream, disaster struck: the cream curdled.... :(
So I served the torte with a crumbled amaretti on top.

The muffin-size torte

The torte tasted good, but to me it wasn't the best of Dorie's recipe.... The outside of the torte was dry (pre-glazing ofcourse), but the inside was still nice and moist.
In total I had 14 portions, which would be 5,5 WW Points per portion.
My giveaway is still open until the 16th of April!!

  1. I always have cream curdle on me! I think the cracked top looks so good!

  2. After trying the torte, I decided not to make the cream topping. I thought it would make the whole thing too rich. I think it might be good with crème fraîche, though, instead of the more Americanized sweet whipped cream.

  3. Ooops! I skipped the whipped cream, but the crushed amaretti sound fabulous on top! And I've totally halved recipes and then forgotten to halve just one ingredient - that goes worse, I promise :)

  4. Bummer about the cream but your crushed amaretti on top looks wonderful! I skipped the cream entirely. This wasn't my favorite Dorie recipe either so glad to hear I wasn't alone :)

  5. Dear Marthe ! Sometimes I mess up with halving the recipe too ! At least you didn't do much harm , you only made more people happy !

  6. Your torte looks lovely, even though making it was a mixed experience. It really didn't need the whipped cream anyway.

  7. I'm sorry that your cream curdled, how unfortunate! I often start to make a half of a recipe and then find that I'm following the recipe exactly as it's written.

  15. I agree: it was very good but not my absolute favorite. And too funny about halving/not halving. That sounds like something I would have done.

  16. I'm always too lazy to make the whipped cream... I'm usually tired of baking by that point.

Your cakes look delish! You had plenty to share :)

  17. Love the idea of making it in your muffin pan! Bummer about the whipped cream curdling. I hate when that happens. I agree it's not my favorite recipe but I am glad I made it. Who can argue with 15 minutes? ;)

  19. It looks great with the amaretti on top! I think whipped cream may have been a little much with this one (but how do I know since I had to sit this one out!)

  24. 14 portions! I know I didn't get 14 slices out of my full-sized cake... *innocent whistling* Making smaller tortes/muffins is a great idea for portion control.
